Wedding Videos – What’s a Fair Price?

by Patricia on December 31, 2011

Let’s face it, weddings aren’t cheap. Once all the estimates are on paper you may be tempted to skimp on the cost of a videographer, but you will only have one chance to capture this event. So what’s the solution and how much should you expect to pay for a wedding video?

A bare-bones wedding video (DVD) will cost anywhere from $300 to $700 according to this price guide. For a finished DVD with all the editing, special effects, music and titles could run anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000.

Of course there are a lot of things that influence the final price of your wedding video package. Whether you want just the actual ceremony taped or the reception as well, how many cameras and operators are used and how many copies you want can increase the price. Even the time of year is a factor, because if you get married in non-typical wedding months (November through January) the videographer may be more willing to cut you a deal just to get the job when he or she doesn’t have much work.

The best advice to remember is to get a quote, which shouldn’t cost you anything. Then ask questions if you have any. It’s better to ask early and not be surprised later with an added cost you thought was covered in the base price. Then get everything in writing, including the exact events to be covered, whether or not the videographer has a backup system, number of copies you will receive and how long it will take to get the finished product.

Your wedding should be one of the most special times of your life, and having a wedding video made doesn’t have to break your bank if you shop around.
