Vow To Pick The Right Wedding Video Songs

by Patricia on September 9, 2011

Music is a universal language, and it’s one of the most important components to your wedding video. That special song, your song that you remember from your first date, first dance or first kiss can give voice to all of those memories and bring them together in your wedding video. But what if you and your fiancĂ© don’t have any favorite songs or can’t agree on which ones to use? Even if you have a whole play list of favorite song choices, how do you pick which ones to use in your wedding video? Here are a few tips to narrow down your wedding video song selections.

Using songs that you plan on having played at your wedding is an obvious choice and you will just have to work with your videographer about the placement. If you don’t have enough songs from your ceremony to fill in your wedding video, you’ll have to repeat or pick some more. What’s on your MP3 player? Which CDs are in your car? There may be songs you have in common but never realized it. Those could be perfect for certain segments of your wedding video.

If you and your soon-to-be spouse can’t agree on a few special songs or can’t remember any that identify with a special moment in your relationship, then pulling up a list of popular wedding songs is the first place to start. You can look through the top 20 classic love songs listed on Wedding Central and find one that fits perfectly with your wedding video.

Some of their suggestions include “The Power of Love” by Celine Dion, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” by Elton John, “At Last” by Etta James, “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” by Elvis Presley or “You Are So Beautiful” by Joe Cocker. Some other classic love song suggestions they have are “Power of Love” by Luther Vandross, “Have I Told You Lately?” by Rod Stewart, “When a Man Loves a Woman” by Percy Sledge and “Kiss From a Rose” by Seal.

Some more current, popular love songs they suggest for your wedding video are “Crazy In Love” by Beyonce, “We Belong Together” by Mariah Carey, “A Moment Like This” by Kelly Clarkson and “Thank You (For Loving)” by Bon Jovi.

You can also get some great ideas by watching other couple’s wedding videos. Check out those of friends and family or look for songs on the world’s biggest play list; the Internet. this article in Glamour suggests borrowing someone else’s wedding video, turning down the sound and playing your own songs in the background to see how they work with the different scenes of a wedding and reception.

Remember that whatever songs you pick for your wedding video, they should have some meaning to you and help tie the video together and move smoothly from one scene to another. They don’t all have to be classic love songs. There may be one or two songs that are just silly or fun and that’s all right as long as they fit. It’s not about what the top ten Billboard hits are, it’s about picking songs for your wedding video that will still be in your personal top ten, twenty years from now.
